ABOUT > COMPANY HISTORY

After working in the video rental industry for several years, Steve Zajaczkiwsky realized that Toronto was ready for another option so in 1992  he started Steve Z Teleproductions in the basement of his house, with a DXC-537A/BVV-5 Betacam SP camcorder.  With the intent of providing quality camera equipment, services and solutions at an affordable price Steve’s focus was on helping other like minded craftspeople achieve their production goals.  The following year Steve married Ingrid Denda who spent many long hours, each evening after work, maintaining the administrative operations of the company.

By this time the equipment had multiplied to the point that it was time to move to out of the house, and so in 1995 Steve exchanged his own basement for the one at 340 Gerrard Street, which many might recognize as the address of Palette Productions.  It was during this period that Steve’s vision for the company really took shape and the hard work really began to show through.  Just 3 years later, in 1998, with another basement full of video equipment, Steve purchased a 1200 square foot facility at 200 Evans Avenue and finally made it up to the ground floor.  1998 was also a year of other changes as Steve Z Teleproductions became ZTV Broadcast Services Inc. adding 2 fulltime employees, and Steve became a dad with the birth of his daughter Sophie.  Ingrid also attained her Certified Financial Planner designation in 1998, stopped working for Steve and began to work for a financial institution much closer to home.

By the time 2004 rolled around ZTV was occupying a 10,000 square foot facility at 1333 Matheson Blvd. E. in Mississauga complete with administrative staff, sales and marketing and a rentals crew to handle the ever growing demand of the Event Staging and Digital Cinema Production markets.  Now 10,000 square feet sounds like a lot of space but with growth comes more equipment and more growth, maybe we could put in a basement.

A 15 year veteran of IATSE 58 Steve has worked a wide range of shows and events and over the years has acquired experience in many other areas of the industry including grip, gaffer, stagehand, cameraman, 2nd AD and PA, he even did a stint in craft services.  Despite the long hours that both Steve and Ingrid have devoted to ZTV they have managed to find time to raise two children, Sophie 13 whose passions are horses and texting and 8 year old Peter who shares his fathers love for all things with a screen, big or small.

Today, the vision is the same as it was in 1992, provide quality equipment, services and solutions for our customers, whatever their needs may be.
